The collective / Artist

Ngân.

I have always been an artist. My kindergarten teacher wrote on my report card: “Cannot sit still, distracts classmates, talks too much. Has a keen liking to Art.” At the time, I had no idea that sentence would follow me for the rest of my life." I make art to make sense of being alive. Born to Vietnamese refugees in Malaysia and raised in California, I grew up between cultures, searching for a place to belong. My work explores identity, nature, the body, grief, humor, and the tension between heart and mind. The world is heartbreaking and beautiful. I’m trying to hold both.
